What Happened to Teddy? Teddy Suddenly Became Sad. đžđ
Teddy has always been the sunshine in our lives. The kind of dog who doesnât just walk into a roomâhe lights it up. His goofy grin, his wagging tail, his over-the-top excitement for even the smallest things (like finding a sock or hearing the word âtreatâ) have always been part of what makes him so special.
But lately, something changed.
It happened quietly at first. Teddy started sleeping more than usual. He skipped his morning zoomies, didnât greet me at the door like he always did, and even ignored Roo when she tried to play with him. His tail wag, once a full-body celebration, turned into a slow, gentle swayâlike he was trying but just didnât have the spark.
And then came the moment that stopped me cold: I offered him his favorite toy⌠and he just looked at it. No bark, no pounce, no interest.
Thatâs when I knewâsomething was wrong.
We took him to the vet right away. Physically, he checked out okay. No fevers, no injuries, no clear cause. That was both a relief and a new concern. Because if his body was fine, what was weighing on his heart?
The vet gently suggested that, like people, dogs can experience emotional distress. Depression. Anxiety. Sadness.
And suddenly, everything clicked.
The past few weeks had been full of change. A few schedule shifts, a houseguest who stayed longer than expected, a brief trip where I had to leave Teddy and Roo with a sitter. I hadnât realized how much those little changes could affect himâbut they did.
Teddy missed the rhythm of his life. He missed the quiet moments we always shared, the daily walks we skipped because of rain or rush. He missed me. And I missed him tooâeven when he was right there beside me.
So now, weâre working on healing. Not just with treats and belly rubs (though those definitely help), but with time, presence, and patience.
Iâve made it a point to slow down. To sit beside him, to talk to him, to let him know heâs not alone. Rooâs been a big part of it, tooâsnuggling close, licking his ears, gently nudging him with a toy even when he doesnât respond. She knows. Dogs always know.
And slowly, weâre starting to see glimpses of our Teddy again. A small tail wag here. A quiet woof when someone walks by the window. Yesterday, he chased Roo across the yard for a few seconds before flopping down with that familiar âI meant to do thatâ expression.
Weâre not fully back yetâbut weâre getting there. Together.
So if youâve noticed Teddy seemed a little different in our recent videos, a little quieter, a little less like himself⌠now you know why.
Heâs been sad. But heâs not broken. And with love, time, and all your support, heâs finding his way back to happy.
Thank you for loving Teddy through it all. Your messages, comments, and warm wishes mean more than you know.
And donât worry.
The tail wags, goofy smiles, and golden heart you know and loveâtheyâre still here.
They just needed a little time to come back out.
